Letter from the President/CEO

Orthopedic surgery is a dynamic specialty, and each year numerous scientific publications in print and digital format strengthen life-changing treatment guidelines, while a few papers challenge firmly held beliefs.

Orthopedic Sciences, Inc., OSI, has opened doors to minimally invasive treatment options for avascular necrosis (AVN) and osteoarthritis (OA) by recognizing the similarities between these two diseases. That said, Dr. Brannon's publications challenged firmly held beliefs regarding the differences between OA and AVN. Thus, OSI was developed to focus exclusively on creating products that allow surgeons to treat both sides of the articular cartilage during a single procedure. Furthermore, oxidized low-density lipoprotein, an LDL byproduct that leads to plaque formation in cardiovascular disease, has been identified as playing a major role in AVN and OA. This major role of oxLDL comprises mineralization mimicries between trans-differentiated calcifying vascular smooth muscle cells in cardiovascular disease and osteoblast. We remain enthusiastic about this fundamental finding, as it is the architecture of innovation at OSI.

Traditional medical device companies provide similar products amongst themselves and construct narratives that speak to the costs to promote the status quo. Hospitals want to save money, doctors want to be fairly compensated for their expertise, and patients want to keep the joints they were born with, don’t you? Our website is designed to share who we are, what we do, and our successes with saving joints for over 20 years. Patients need to be informed and engaged with their doctors, as healthcare decisions are made within the privacy of the physician-patient relationship. Review our "Questions to Ask a Doctor" pages. Print these pages, share them with friends and family and ask more questions. We have avoided short bullet comments because the human joint is a complex structure. Joint preservation starts with you and continues with a surgeon committed to using the proper equipment to perform procedures based on a broader understanding of OA and AVN. We are here to help.
